THE  HISTORY  OF  DDT  IN  ONTARIO 


1969:    The  Province  of  Ontario  announced  the  use  of  DDT  would  be 

prohibited  from  January  1,  1970  except  for  a  few  specialized 
cases.   It  would  be  available  only  to  holders  of  a  permit  for 
use  on  tarnished  plant  bugs  in  apples,  cutworm  in  tobacco,  and 
bats.   Notices  were  placed  in  newspapers  throughout  the  province 
regarding  the  restriction  on  the  use  of  DDT  and,  the  collection 
and  disposal  of  DDT.    R.R.  O.  1970,  Reg.  657  s.  23(1) 


1971:    A  trade  memorandum  by  Agriculture  Canada  was  circulated  to  the 

trade  including  all  agricultural  organizations  regarding  changes 
in  the  acceptable  uses  for  DDT  (See  T-88,  December  31,  1971) . 


1972:    The  Province  of  Ontario  prohibited  the  use  of  DDT  for  cutworm 
control  in  tobacco  after  January  1,  1972.

1973:    The  Province  of  Ontario  prohibited  the  use  of  DDT  for 

tarnished  plant  bug  control  in  apples  after  January  1,  1973. 


1974; 


The  Province  of  Ontario  allowed  the  use  of  DDT  for  mice  in 
addition  to  bats  in  July,  1974.
